Photography is a process of reflection,  frozen  feelings, a bible of dreams…”

Inspirational fine art and abstract images by photographer and artist Steven Glass. Presently working from Guernsey, the Channel Islands, UK Steven spent the first part of his creative career studying fine art, painting and drawing from life. He explored many different types of media with which to express his view and settled on photography as a powerful way to record life and tell a story.

His style is best describes as painterly, abstract and emotional, capturing the essence of the moment as a pattern in life. He works deeply with the subject to tell a story as an abstract reflection and fleeting moment. The photographs convey another side to the subject, a deeper side where hidden feelings emerge, fleeting movement and colors come to the surface.

Each image holds a story that at first glance presents a view, then asks you to look again. I like to play with positive and negative space, where the boundaries are blurred. As in a dream, nothing is fixed, my images aim to be fluid and invite interpretation.

I sit with my subject, in the forest or in a crowded market and just allow myself to feel. I find that if I sit quietly and observe, soaking up the atmosphere the subject will appear. The camera is only a way to record, and if I feel peace then I connect with my subject. This is one of the reasons I went back to analogue photography. Film is so much more real, precious, creative and in the present moment. I take my time, press the shutter and wind it on…

“You don’t make a photograph just with a camera. You bring to the act of photography
all the pictures you have seen, the books you have read,
the music you have heard, the people you have loved.” – Ansel Adams
